Gabriela Kennedy is a partner of Mayer Brown JSM and head of the Asia IP and TMT group. She is also co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Intellectual Property practice. She is based in Hong Kong, practising intellectual property, media, information technology and telecommunications law.
She handles the full spectrum of intellectual property work from litigation to licensing, strategic advice and portfolio management. A true domain name specialist, Gabriela has drafted over 400 domain name complaints and has rendered in excess of 200 decisions, many as presiding panellist in multiple languages. She is a domain name panellist with World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and The Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (ADNDRC). Over the years, Gabriela has acted for a number of brand owners and devised enforcement strategies for them in Greater China and elsewhere in Asia. Gabriela handled scores of company name hijacking cases in Hong Kong, devising a successful strategy to enforce court orders against company name hijackers. This strategy is now widely adopted by other legal practitioners in Hong Kong. Gabriela has handled a number of IT disputes stemming from large scale outsourcing agreements as well as a number of media disputes and telecoms litigation. Gabriela has been listed in many directories as a leading lawyer in the fields of intellectual property, technology media and telecoms as well as data protection, e-commerce and the Internet and has received a number of client and other awards. A former theoretical linguist Gabriela speaks a number of European languages including English, French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian and Portuguese.
